The Best Playdough Recipe Ever!
I don’t know about you, but I have a serious playdough obsession. So serious in fact, I’ve spent over eight years trying to find and perfect my recipe!
Over the years I’ve spent ridiculous amounts of time scouring Pinterest and google for playdough recipes. I’ve found some good ones and some bad ones, but none were just quite right.
So I started playing with different recipes and modifying. Batch after batch after batch. Not all were bad, and my kids love it because they get to play with playdough ALL THE TIME!
One sunny playdough experimenting day, I did it. I used the exact amount of ingredients, the exact cooking time, the exact time to take off the stove, and the exact kneading time. I DID IT! And I’m so proud of my efforts and the best playdough ever!
Playdough to me is more than a ball of ingredients mixed together. It can allow children’s imagination to blossom and grow, with all the magic and wonder - playdough can be ANYTHING but a ball of dough in the right little hands!
And I don’t know about you, but have you ever sat down with your children and actually played with it yourself? It is so calming, nervous system relaxing, and just feels SO good to squish and mould in our hands! Plus the special time spent in play with our children is absolutely priceless.
The benefits of playdough are immense, if you would love to know more about the benefits click here.
I hope you love this recipe as much as I do, and I wish you countless hours of relaxed, imaginative and fun play with your children!
How to make the Best Playdough Ever!
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 2 cups water (if using a dye, add it to the water)
- 2 tbs cream of tartar
- 3 tbs olive oil
- 1/2 cup salt
How to make…
- Add all ingredients to saucepan
- Cook on stovetop medium to high heat, stirring constantly until dough forms a sticky ball **make sure to take off stove when the dough is still sticky, this will allow for the softest playdough and won’t be dry and crumbly
- Transfer dough to a cool surface and let sit for 1-2 minutes or until cool enough to knead but still quite warm and sticky
- Knead until playdough is soft and smooth. It may stick to your hands and the surface you are kneading on, but stay with it, it will come together!
