What is Bush Kindy?
Bush Kindy is a child-led outdoor learning experience where children spend meaningful time immersed in nature. Rather than structured lessons, children are encouraged to explore, create, problem-solve, take appropriate risks and connect with the natural world through play.
What age is Bush Kindy suitable for?
Our family Bush Kindy sessions are designed for children from birth to around 8 years old. Activities are open-ended, allowing siblings of different ages to participate at their own level.
Do parents stay during the sessions?
Yes. Bush Kindy is a family experience, and a parent or caregiver remains with their child throughout the session. Our educators guide the experience, but parents remain responsible for their child's supervision, safety and wellbeing.
What happens if it rains?
We embrace all seasons and most weather conditions. Rain often creates some of our most memorable adventures!
We only cancel if conditions become unsafe, such as severe storms, high winds, fire danger or extreme weather. We believe there is no such thing as bad weather—only inappropriate clothing.
What should we wear?
Dress for the weather and expect to get muddy.
We recommend:
- Closed-in shoes
- Long pants
- Sun hat (or warm beanie in winter)
- Waterproof jacket if rain is forecast
- Spare clothes for the trip home
What should we bring?
A drink bottle, snacks if needed, spare clothes and your sense of adventure.
Depending on the session, we may suggest additional items such as gumboots or warm layers.
Is Bush Kindy safe?
Absolutely. Safety is our highest priority.
Our sessions are fully risk assessed, we hold comprehensive public liability insurance, and our educators are experienced in facilitating outdoor learning environments. Children are supported to assess risk, build confidence and develop lifelong safety skills in a carefully managed environment.
Why do you encourage risky play?
Because appropriate risk is essential for healthy development.
Climbing, balancing, using tools, navigating uneven ground and testing limits all help children build confidence, resilience, coordination, judgement and problem-solving skills. We carefully manage hazards while allowing children the opportunity to experience healthy risk.
Do children use real tools and campfires?
Sometimes, yes.
Children may have opportunities to safely use real tools or participate in campfire experiences under close supervision. Activities are carefully planned, age-appropriate, and supported with clear safety procedures.
Do I need to attend every week?
We encourage regular attendance as children build confidence, friendships and a strong connection with nature over the term. However, we understand life happens and you're welcome to attend whenever you're able.
Can siblings attend?
Absolutely. One of the things families love most is that siblings can explore together.
Can I book a casual session?
If spaces are available, casual bookings may occasionally be offered. However, our Bush Kindy community often books by the term, and many sessions sell out.
Do you offer programs for schools and early learning services?
Yes.
We provide outdoor education programs, professional development for educators, school incursions, holiday programs and tailored experiences for early learning services and community organisations.

How do I book?
Bookings are completed online through our booking system. Once your place is secured, you'll receive a confirmation email with everything you need to know before your first session.
My child is shy or doesn’t like getting dirty. Will they enjoy your programs?
Absolutely. Every child joins in differently, and that's perfectly okay. There is never any pressure to participate in a particular activity. Some children spend their first few sessions simply observing before gradually building the confidence to explore. Our role is to create a welcoming environment where every child feels safe, capable and free to engage in their own way. Often, it's these children who surprise their families the most over time.
